Layout Planning

How We Plan Your Kitchen Countertop Layout

Using your existing countertops as a template, we will map out the size and shape of your new countertops. Templates also include sink and countertop cutouts. Undermount sinks are a popular choice for Tucson kitchens because they offer a sleek, modern aesthetic with a smooth transition between the work surface and the sink basin.

You’ll choose the exact slab your countertops are cut from, and we will line up the template to fit your vision for vein direction and seam placement. Tight, visually matched seams distinguish higher-quality fabrication, so we ensure precise measurements and clean cuts for a cohesive and smooth final look.

Smaller kitchens may only use one slab while larger islands and longer countertops may need multiple slabs.

Edge Profiles

What Type of Edge Profile is Best for a Busy Kitchen?

In busy kitchens, rounded edges are the preferred choice because sharp edges are more likely to crack or chip. The pencil edge offers a clean, modern look but retains a smooth, slightly rounded edge (similar to the side of a pencil), which helps to distribute the force of an impact. Along with sharp, angular edges, it’s best to avoid ornate grooves, which can collect dirt and debris, making it more difficult to keep the kitchen clean.

Design Coordination

How Do You Coordinate Countertops with Cabinets, Backsplashes, and Flooring?

The best method for matching materials is bringing samples of your flooring to our showroom to match them with full slabs. Small granite and quartz samples don’t fully showcase the color and pattern of these materials, so it’s best to get a more complete look by viewing full slabs in person. If you don’t have flooring, cabinetry, or backsplash samples, take photos of your kitchen in several different lighting conditions and bring them along to the showroom.

Cabinet Compatibility

Can You Keep Your Existing Cabinets?

In most cases, you can keep your existing cabinets and simply remove your old countertops. However, if the cabinets are not in good condition or don’t fit your aesthetic preferences, you may consider replacing them when you invest in new countertops. Cabinets must also be structurally sound so they’re able to support the heavy weight of quartz or granite slabs. If countertops are not level, wood or plastic shims may be used to correct low spots.

How It Works

What Happens from Consultation to Installation Day?

We aim to make the process of replacing your kitchen countertops easy and fast. Most of the process happens behind the scenes at our Tucson workshop where your custom kitchen countertops are designed and fabricated.

Kitchen Countertop FAQs

The best material for your kitchen countertops will depend on your personal preferences, budget, and how you use your kitchen. Both granite and quartz are popular options that can increase resale value and remain durable for many years to come.

Choosing cabinets first is recommended because cabinet style, color, and finish set the visual tone for your kitchen. They will also dictate the exact measurements of your cabinets, along with sink and appliance placement.

Determining the right overhang for a kitchen island will depend on whether you want to add seating. Without seating, a 1-1.5-inch overhang is standard. With bar stool seating, you need 12 inches of overhang, and with table-height seating, you need up to 18 inches of overhang. For overhangs exceeding 12 inches, added support braces are needed.

In most kitchens, your countertops will have seams. These will be placed strategically in corners or areas where it is easy to match the grain pattern and disguise the seam. We will also use precise cuts and installation techniques to create tight seams rather than large gaps filled with epoxy.

Quartz and granite kitchen countertops should have a thickness of 2-3 centimeters. A thinner profile offers a sleek and modern look, but it may require extra support for overhangs or longer spans.

Yes. We can install granite countertops in outdoor kitchens in Tucson. For outdoor applications, homogeneous, gravelly natural stone is preferred over heavily veined material because sun exposure can degrade resin-filled crevices.
